In line with the celebration of the Library and Information Services Month and the 50th anniversary of Baliwag Municipal Library, the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Municipality of Baliwag through the Baliwag Municipal Library gave two free online trainings for Baliwagenyos to provide additional knowledge and skills that they can use in everyday life.
The first training was “Internet Media and Information Literacy Training” (IMIL) held last November 15, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM via Zoom. Mr. Domingo Chico Jr. of the DICT opened the program with his welcome remarks while Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella delivered his message for the participants on the relevance of the training. The resource speaker was Mr. Marvin Jacela, a member of TCPA scholar (telecenter org. PhilCeCnet Academy). Some of the highlights of the discussion include the responsible use of the internet and the corresponding netiquettes, accessibility of virtual jobs and assistance in online job hunting, available e-government services and free WiFi, websites and social media as news and information platforms, and issues and challenges on cybersecurity. The training successfully delivered its objective of broadening the knowledge and raising the awareness of individuals to prevent scams, fake news on the internet, and other cybercrime threats that affect our data security, especially nowadays in which all the transactions are made online.
The second training was “Digital Literacy Training” specifically the basics of how to use Adobe Photoshop. It was held on November 16, 2021, and divided into two batches because of the many numbers of participants that registered --- one in the morning from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and another one from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Engr. Reynaldo T. Sy, the regional Director of DICT Luzon Cluster 2, and Mayor Ferdinand V. Estrella gave their respective messages to the participants. The online training was facilitated by Ms. Moniena M. Santiago from the DICT in which she taught the basic tools and functions of Adobe Photoshop focusing on basic photo editing and graphic layouts for posters, cards, et cetera. The majority of the participants were beginners while some have little knowledge in using the software. After the discussion, the participants had a hands-on activity of placing an image inside a text. The said activity honed the participants on how to use the text tool, manage the layers, create a mask, add a background layer, and save the document with a transparent background among others. The finished output from the activity was submitted to DICT afterward.
Participants were given e-certificates at the end of the session of both trainings.
